ASID CAREER SKILLS CERTIFICATE

New interior design professionals, recent graduates, and design firms or studios will all benefit from this competency-based certificate built to strengthen communications, problem-solving, and other “soft” skills, helping to facilitate the transition from school to the “real world” of work in interior design.

For recent interior design school graduates and those new to the profession, this unique training program will build your skills in essentials such as effective communications, team dynamics, problem-solving, and project management. Developed after consultation with interior design firms, the program is designed to provide additional support and training to strengthen your interpersonal or “soft” skills – a need identified by firm leaders – as well as grounding in “how the work gets done” at major firms.

The ASID Career Skills Certificate program aims to develop and refine soft skills needed for the interior design professional workplace. Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Write professional emails and draft other reports and documents that are presentable and clear to clients, vendors, and colleagues.
  2. Deliver verbal and non-verbal communication mindfully, whether engaging in the office with fellow co-workers or outside of the office in social networking environments, project management processes, and other professional meetings.
  3. Give and receive professional critiques or detailed feedback with project work, creative participation, and other ideation processes using emotionally intelligent tactics and methods.
  4. Develop a workplace persona that is an impressive professional representation of themselves and their place of employment.
  5. Analyze workplace situations where their soft skills can be applied, demonstrating an elevation in their overall professional presence that is noted by colleagues, clients, and supervisors.
  6. Collaborate effectively with team members working on a project using actionable project management strategies.
  7. Create a future forward career map that contains specific goals in obtaining credentials, certifications, and/or specialty skills from reputable sources.
